BREAKING—This story will be updated as more details emerge
As one of his first acts as Chief of Staff, General John Kelly has removed Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci from his position that he was given just over a week ago. The change came at the request of Kelly, officials said.
The move comes days after an explosive article published by the New Yorker’s Ryan Lizza, in which Scaramucci called Reince Priebus a “fucking paranoid schizophrenic,” and said of Senior Advisor Stephen Bannon “I’m not Steve Bannon, I’m not trying to suck my own cock.”
As Kelly ascends the second most prestigious job in the West Wing, there were many questions as to whether he would be allowed to govern the staff as he chooses, or if Trump would assert full control as he did under Priebus. This show of force only hours into office proves to skeptics that Kelly will be a force to be reckoned with in the West Wing and that he is not afraid of a staff shake up.
President Donald Trump seriously demeaned his first Chief of Staff Reince Priebus. He mocked Priebus for expressing excitement when he saw his Wisconsin home from Air Force One. He also made Priebus swat flies in the West Wing, the West Wing has a fly problem. Coming into his new job, Axios is reporting that Kelly broke the news to Scaramucci almost immediately after he was sworn in as Trump’s second Chief of Staff. On his first day in office, Kelly has shown more power and influence in Trump’s administration than Priebus did during his entire tenure in the office.
Kelly’s decision to oust Scaramucci as Communications Director shows that under his leadership there will be no room for other powers, which alludes to how he will treat Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump, and Stephen K. Bannon under his leadership. Kelly is sure to be a powerful Chief of Staff, and we can expect a much more disciplined Trump administration as long as he is in office. Trump admired Kelly from the start because of his strong enforcement of immigration laws and his willingness to carry out Trump’s immigration agenda.
Scaramucci was only in office for 10 days as Communications Director, that must be some sort of record low.
